European Mobility Week

SaveTheDate ✅ 21 September 2021 - Ride To Autonomy | Reggio Emilia

🚌 Reggio Emilia e Modena, September 2021 - In the heart of the Motor Valley, during the European Mobility Week in Reggio Emilia (16-22 September) the Pilot Project “Ride To Autonomy” will be presented to the public.

🎯 The goal is to test for a period of about 2 months a mobility service oriented to urban intermodal commuting on public roads with the “Olli” vehicle, an 8-seater self-driving shuttle built by the Americans of Local Motors, along the route that connects two suggestive landmarks: the Mediopadana high-speed train station built by the architect Santiago Calatrava and the Campus Max Mara designed by John McAslan.

Olli is equipped with sensors, capable of intercepting pedestrians and obstacles around the vehicle, radar systems, an optical video camera and two GPS antennas. It weighs 20 quintals, has a load capacity of up to 907 kilos and a frame entirely 3D printed with composite polymers and aluminum.

The Pilot Project was born in the context of the European Work Program 2020 “Communications Networks, Content and Technology” and sees the Enzo Ferrari Engineering Department of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia as the only Italian partner of the European consortium which has benefited from funding, with the participation of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, Local Motors, Max Mara Fashion Group, Reale Group and Unindustria. The research results will contribute to the development of smart and green mobility solutions, enabled by new information technologies for an intermodal, autonomous, inclusive and sustainable transport model.

Tuesday 21 September:
